Namibia
Year opened: 2009
The Mission Society opened a field in Namibia in 2009. Of Namibia’s more than two million inhabitants, it is estimated that at least 15% have HIV/AIDS. Namibians also face staggering poverty as 34.9% of the population lives on one dollar per day and another 55.8% lives on just two dollars each day. Eighty-to-ninety percent of Namibians are Christian and 10-20% practice indigenous beliefs.
Mission Society missionaries in Namibia partner with Children of Zion Village in Katima Mulilo. Children of Zion Village is an orphanage that currently serves 57 children, most of whom are AIDS orphans. The children receive food, shelter, healthcare, education, as well as love and Christian teachings.
